Ms. Qiu Xiaoqing, Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board, pointed out that Singapore certainly hopes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to between 45 million and 50 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2035. However, these are just numbers. What is more important is that in the process of this effort, the concept of sustainable development will be integrated into the blood of Singapore companies and solidified as part of their strategy and capabilities. In the long run, this will enhance Singapore's international competitiveness.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the UN’s scientific body formed in 1988 to assess the science behind climate change.
The IPCC conducts assessments in 6 to 8-year cycles and recently concluded its 6th assessment report (AR6). Its assessments provide policymakers with an important scientific basis for crafting climate-related policies and underlie negotiations at the annual UN Climate Conference.
On 15 and 16 August, we, together with our Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP) colleagues, were delighted to host 2 webinars where we had six UN Global Compact (UNGC) member companies from around Asia to share their Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and decarbonisation journey with other Asia-based members.
