Frequently Asked Questions

S-TAP (Sustainability Technical Advisory Panel) is a UNGCNS initiative that connects members with experienced sustainability leaders for structured, light-touch advisory support.

It is designed to help members gain clarity, direction, and practical next steps in their sustainability journey.

S-TAP is best suited for:

  • UNGCNS member companies
  • SMEs and early-stage sustainability adopters
  • Organisations seeking strategic guidance rather than implementation
  • Companies committed to taking action

S-TAP works best when questions are focused and strategic. It is designed to provide high-level guidance, direction-setting, and expert perspective rather than operational execution support.

Examples of suitable topics include:

  • Where to begin on sustainability
  • Setting priorities and governance structures
  • Developing a roadmap
  • Understanding reporting frameworks
  • Clarifying carbon strategy direction
  • Integrating sustainability into business strategy

S-TAP is an advisory platform designed to offer strategic guidance and expert perspectives. It does not provide:

  • Legal or financial advice
  • Detailed technical calculations
  • Report writing or assurance services

S-TAP is strictly advisory in nature, focused on helping organisations think strategically and make informed decisions, rather than executing or delivering operational work.

After you submit your application:

  1. UNGCNS reviews your challenge and readiness.
  2. We clarify your advisory focus through a short call.
  3. We match you with one or two suitable S-TAP advisors based on:
    • Sector relevance
    • Maturity level
    • Nature of your challenge
    • Availability and conflict checks

Matching is done to ensure relevance and quality, not speed alone.

Typical engagement:

  • 3 to 6 months
  • 1 structured session per month (approx. 60 minutes)
  • A clear scope is defined at the start
  • Formal close-out at completion
  • Interaction can be face-to-face or online, depending on the requirements.

To maximise the value of S-TAP, members are expected to:

  • Come prepared for sessions
  • Share relevant background information
  • Be open and transparent
  • Commit time and internal follow-up
  • Take ownership of actions

S-TAP works best when members are proactive, engaged, and committed to driving progress within their own organisations.

Yes.

  • Discussions are confidential.
  • Advisors operate under agreed guidelines.
  • Conflict of interest safeguards are in place.

Confidentiality is fundamental to creating a safe and constructive advisory environment.

S-TAP is designed to be no-cost (in the initial advisory) to low cost for members.

Should a S-TAP Advisor be engaged by a member organisation outside the initial advisory consultation, any fees or associated costs are to be negotiated directly between the S-TAP Advisor and the member organisation.

Success may include:

  • Clearer sustainability direction
  • Defined roadmap or next steps
  • Governance improvements
  • Confidence to proceed
  • Transition to training or sector initiatives

At the end of the engagement, there is a short close-out discussion and summary.

S-TAP is often an entry point into:

  • UNGCNS training programmes
  • Sector initiatives
  • Reporting support
  • Peer learning communities
  • Move forward with actions and consultations from S-TAP Advisors

It is part of a broader membership journey.

Complete the short S-TAP application form (approx. 15 minutes).

Our Secretariat will follow up within 5 to 10 working days.

Before applying, ask yourself:

  1. Can we clearly define our sustainability challenge? Even if it is no, S-TAP is applicable.
  2. Do we have leadership support?
  3. Can we commit to monthly sessions?
  4. Are we looking for guidance rather than outsourced implementation?

If the answer is “yes” to most of the above, S-TAP is likely suitable.
