Overview

UN Global Compact Network Singapore (UNGCNS) is the Singapore chapter of the United Nations Global Compact.

 

The Advanced Certificate in Sustainability and Sustainable Businesses, a joint program by UN Global Compact Network Singapore (UNGCNS) and SMU Academy, addresses the UN Sustainable Development Goals by offering a comprehensive curriculum which is aligned with global sustainability goals and local initiatives in Singapore, equipping participants with the necessary skills to navigate the evolving sustainability landscape.

Our sustainability course is intricately aligned with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030. The programme covers essential topics such as climate change, sustainable finance, circular economy, and corporate sustainability reporting and strategies, supporting Singapore’s journey towards a sustainable economy.

This comprehensive approach equips participants with a holistic understanding of sustainability issues preparing participants to lead sustainability initiatives within their organisations.

Participants learn from experienced faculty and industry experts, gaining insights that are both theoretical and practical and up-to-date with the latest sustainability trends and best practices.

Grace Cheah

Founder, Sustinere

Grace is the founder of Sustinere, she brings with her more than 12 years of experience in sustainability related work. She has previously delivered management systems audits and consultancy, and was previously a Lead Verifier for external assurance of Sustainability Reports and Integrated Reports. She has conducted numerous social compliance audits (e.g. Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) and Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audits (SMETA)), in Singapore and Malaysia since 2014, and has hands on experience in managing supply chain due diligence as well as human and labour rights issues. Grace holds a M.Sc. in Biochemical Research from Imperial College London, a B.Sc.(Hons) in Biotechnology from University College London, and a Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (DACE). She is also a Lead Certified Sustainability Assurance Practitioner (Accountability) and a certified Practicing Management Consultant.

Huang Sue -Ann

Associate Director, Centre for Impact Investing and Practices (CIIP)

Sue-Ann works with regional and global partners to drive impact investing in Asia and beyond - building knowledge assets, championing industry standards, and convening stakeholders to bring about positive action. CIIP is a non-profit entity established by Temasek Trust, with Temasek and ABC Impact as strategic partners. CIIP is also the anchor partner for SDG Impact in Asia. Sue-Ann has close to two decades of experience in corporate sustainability and impact measurement and management. She is certified in Sustainable Finance by the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, and is an Accredited Trainer for the United Nations Development Programme SDG Impact Standards. She is qualified through the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) to deliver adult learning and assessments. She has trained corporates, bankers and asset managers, on sustainability and impact investment-related topics.  Prior to her current role, Sue-Ann was at Keppel Corporation, an MSCI triple-A ESG rated global asset manager and operator, and at StarHub, Asia's most sustainable telecommunications company. She led Keppel’s sustainability reporting efforts and supported Keppel’s strategy and policy development around ESG issues spanning a spectrum of businesses, including in infrastructure, real estate and connectivity, serving as advisor to business units. Sue-Ann has also managed the corporate philanthropic portfolios of Keppel and StarHub, applying impact measurement and management strategies to achieve positive social and environmental outcomes.

Praveen Tekchandani

Praveen Tekchandani is a Director at Ernst & Young LLP Singapore, providing advisory and assurance services in the field of Climate Change and Sustainability. He has carried out assignments for various clients spanning MNCs, government, statutory boards, MDBs, private companies, and not-for-profits across Asia-Pacific. He is a qualified lead assessor for Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), GHG assessment, and Energy Management System (ISO 50001); and has conducted over 120 Environmental assessment across 14 countries. He has also been awarded Enterprise Singapore Merit Award 2018 for his significant contributions to Singapore Standardization Programme in the field of environment and sustainability.

Prof Lawrence Loh

Director
Centre for Governance and Sustainability Professor in Practice of Strategy and Policy NUS Business School National University of Singapore

Prof Lawrence Loh is Director, Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS) at NUS Business School, National University of Singapore where he is Professor in Practice of Strategy and Policy. He is also Visiting Professor at Wealth Management Institute. Prof Loh received a PhD in Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His thesis on technology governance was awarded global first prize in the worldwide doctoral competition in the field of management information systems. At CGS, Prof Loh steers the Singapore Governance and Transparency Index and ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard. In the domain of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG), he leads the Knowledge Partner team at CGS for the Sustainability Impact Awards in Singapore. He also directs the CGS project that is commissioned by the Singapore Exchange to conduct sustainability assessments of all listed companies on the Exchange. Prof Loh heads the ASEAN sustainability reporting initiative covering 6 countries and steers the Asia-Pacific sustainability reporting assessment covering 14 jurisdictions. He is a lead investigator on a study in sustainable banking for all listed banks in ASEAN. Recently, he spearheads market studies on climate reporting in ASEAN as well as nature and biodiversity reporting in Asia Pacific. Prof Loh serves as judge for various corporate sustainability awards and competitions in Singapore and the Asian region. Prof Loh conducts executive development programs in ESG for leading institutions across Asia Pacific and Singapore. He is a multi-time winner of NUS Annual Teaching Excellence Award and NUS Business School Teaching Excellence Award. Prof Loh is a regular commentator for leading global and local media. He has a citation count of some 500 per year across media worldwide, including numerous front-page headlines.

Attiya Ashraf Ali

Attiya is an Assistant Manager at Ernst & Young LLP Singapore, under the Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCaSS) team. In CCaSS, Attiya’s area of interest lies in community impact projects such as those around philanthropy and impact measurement. She also works on many other ESG-related projects such as strategic advisory, training and assurance services for clients across a variety of sectors. Prior to CCaSS, Attiya was part of EY-Parthenon, where she focused on strategic business management consulting services across sectors such as FMCG, Oil & Gas and Healthtech. Attiya has vast experience in the community space in Singapore as well, with appointments in advisory committees and leadership roles in a non-profit organisation, charity and government-affiliated initiatives.

Mr. Matthew (Matt) Hedley Kasdin

General counsel of IIX global, Singapore

Matt is a pioneering, Award-winning impact lawyer with a wealth of diverse legal, compliance, sustainability / ESG, government affairs, impact investing and business and human rights experience across the globe. After beginning his legal career at the leading international law firm Latham & Watkins in its New York and London offices, he has since worked as general counsel at the Global Compact Secretariat in New York, and in Singapore at a private equity firm as a vice president, at a listed internet company as general counsel, and at a renewable energy firm as a legal director and head of sustainability. Awards he has won include being named to the Legal 500's GC and Green GC Powerlists. He currently is general counsel of IIX Global and is affiliated with WL Impact and a New York, San Francisco and Singapore law firm as well as serving on advisory boards of both listed and start-up companies. Clients he has advised have included leading investment banks, private equity firms, listed companies, the World Bank / IFC, as well as at the UN Global Compact and Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) initiatives, where he drafted foundational governance documents. He has a Doctor of Law from Northwestern University, a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and was named a Fulbright Scholar.

Priyanka Mehta

Priyanka is the Associate Partner and Southeast Asia head for Cognitud Pte Ltd., a sustainability consulting services providing firm. Priyanka and her team members have advised clients at various stages of sustainability and ESG journey and helped achieve their goals. Some of their services include achieving net zero goals, waste management and circular economy, sustainability reporting aligned with ISSB standard, climate risk assessment and more. The team also works with investors and financial institutes in implementing ESG related decisions in their investments. Prior to working with Cognitud, Priyanka worked with SGS – a well-known certification body. She helped her clients achieve credibility through assurance and verification like ISO 14064. She was also the lead trainer for ISO 14064 GHG verification lead verifier course from SGS. Priyanka has trained numerous classes from SGS and previous employers. Her training experience includes Scope 3 masterclass in partnership with UNGCNS
